Insider Tips

Things seasoned cruisers wish they knew

Wi-Fi

The 'free' 150 minutes of WiFi from Free at Sea is per stateroom (not per person) and is very limited. It does not support streaming or video calls.

All Drinks

Gratuities of $28.50/person/day are charged when you activate the Free at Sea drink and dining perks. As of March 2026, onboard beverage packages no longer work on Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's private island).

Gratuities

The Free at Sea 'free' perks come with a mandatory daily service charge of $28.50/person/day that is not optional. This can add $200+/person on a 7-night cruise.

Room Service

Ordering additional items beyond the per-person limit requires a separate order with another delivery fee. This means a family ordering multiple items can pay multiple delivery charges.

Specialty Dining

A $10/person no-show fee is charged if you don't cancel a specialty dining reservation at least 2 hours in advance. Reservations are only held for 15 minutes.

Tipping

Activating Free at Sea perks triggers a mandatory $28.50/person/day service charge on top of regular daily gratuities. This is not optional and adds significantly to the total cost.

Dining

NCL charges $5 for each extra entree ordered in the main dining room (complimentary restaurants). This fee was rolled out fleet-wide in late 2025.

Policy Change

Beverage packages no longer work on Great Stirrup Cay (NCL's private island) as of March 2026. You must purchase a separate island drink package.

Booking

If you reprice or upgrade a booking made before November 5, 2025 with the old More at Sea promo, you may be switched to the newer Free at Sea terms, which could be less favorable.

Dining

Specialty dining reservations have a $10/person no-show fee if not canceled 2+ hours ahead. Reservations are only held for 15 minutes before being released.
