Split is Croatia's second-largest city and home to Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Roman emperor in the 4th century AD — and uniquely, people still live within its ancient walls. The cruise terminal is steps from the palace, making it one of the most convenient ports in the Adriatic for independent exploration.
